Roving Scientist Bar
- 14 August 2026
- 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm (AEST)
- The Hope and Anchor, 65 Macquarie Street
We’re taking over the Hope and Anchor, Australia’s oldest continuously licensed pub, putting a scientist at every table, and inviting you in for the least-boring bar chats you’ve ever had. Also probably some of the weirdest… we’ve got experts on everything from dung beetles to exoplanets (Pluto is real!). There will be games, microscopes, specimens, live music, prizes to win, delicious things to drink and eat, and just so many scientists to talk to. It’s like speed dating, except nerdier and less susceptible to being overtaken by an app.
This event is part of Beaker Street Festival, and the National Quantum & Dark Matter Road Trip scientists will be there!
Smart, surprising, and seriously entertaining: Beaker Street Festival is bringing its signature mix of science, art, and connection back to Lutruwita/Tasmania this August. Beaker Street Festival is Tasmania’s annual celebration of science and culture.
